Sam Byrk: Upcoming STAR

Our team at WMH has a chance to sit down and ask Sam Byrk some key questions to learn more about his story. 1. What first got you into music?

I come from a musical family and my mom put a lot of effort into me being around music a lot as a kid so that helped me.

2. Who or what inspired you to make music?

Music from other artists inspires me, the vibe, lyrics and aesthetics.

3. What is your creative process like?

Before a studio session I write my lyrics beforehand usually and make a demo at home and mess around to see what sounds best. Then in the studio we go straight to work and then there are always some aspects during the session where I might change lyrics or the flow.

4. Has your musical journey had a deliberate direction?

It has been an amazing journey but it has its ups and downs, a lot of time, effort and work goes into my craft.

5. What is your biggest musical challenge?

Getting my sound heard, starting in Europe was quite difficult as the sound I was doing was not too common in this area.

6. What would you be doing right now, if it wasn’t for your music career?

Probably aiming for a boring ass 9-5 job (haha).

7. How do you feel the Internet has impacted the music business?

It has made it easy for people to release their music and really get it out there, you can learn anything via YouTube etc. Networking has also been more accessible I'd say.

8. What is the best advice you’ve been given?

Invest in yourself and treat your career like a business.

9. If you were talking to a younger version of you, what advice would you give

Do what you love and don’t care about others judgement.

10. If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?

Probably better deals and making sure that the artist has the freedom he or she needs.

11. What’s next for you?

A lot, really big things are going to come up in the future!

Born in Germany, raised in Miami, FL and Luxembourg, and currently living in the Netherlands, Sam Byrk’s background is as diverse as the music he is making.
